Kristian Tanghøj, passionate about publishing creative books

A passion for Books

Introducing Kristian Tanghøj, from Aether Publishing

Where are you from?

I was born in Ribe.

What is your background?

I have always been interested in storytelling especially visual storytelling.

I started out at an art school but ended up doing a Masters in history of literature.

When did you start publishing books?

I started the publishing firm in 2010 as a hobby while I was studying.

What was the project that you enjoyed the most?

Well ... I really enjoyed making "De Overvågede" by Maiken Abildgaard because we really experimented with the borders of what a book is.

What is the biggest challenge for a book publisher in the 21st Century?

That really depends on what size the publisher is but in general for small publishers, visibility is one of the biggest challenges.

Why did you decide to join Aarhus Makers?

I believe that many things will be easier for small creative companies if they work together on common challenges.

I think Aarhus Makers could be one way of cooperating.

What piece of advice would you give to anybody that wants to become a publisher?

Do it if you love telling stories, do it if you feel you just have to, but don't do it if your plan is to earn money.
